FIP Virus in Cats (Feline infectious peritonitis)

Paul Manktelow.  household catFeline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a very rare fatal viral disease of cats caused by infection with feline coronavirus (FCoV).  Many cats throughout the world are infected with FCoV but only show mild transient disease such as diarrhoea, some show no disease at all.   Occasionally the viral infection will develop into FIP; it is thought that this is due to a viral mutation in the cat.  The consequences can be disastrous not only for the individual cat but also for other cats in the household. This article gives you some detailed information on this serious disease of cats.
