Paul Manktelow.  Bladder problems in cats are a relatively common occurrence in veterinary medicine and range from simple uncomplicated cystitis to more serious instances of obstruction and blocked bladder.  The latter disease seems to primarily affect male cats whose narrow urethras are more easily blocked. Severe cases are considered life threatening veterinary emergencies and cats with blocked bladders that are left untreated can quickly deteriorate and die.
