Paul Manktelow.  The anal sacs or anal glands as they are commonly called, are two pouches situated on either side of the anus. There is one on  the right and one on the left side at roughly the 4 o’clock and 8 o’clock position. The sacs are lined with special cells which secrete a very strong smelling substance.
