Paul Manktelow. Cushing’s disease is also known as Hyperadrenocorticism. It is a disease which manifests due to an excess of a circulating hormone known as cortisol which is secreted from the adrenal gland. This disease is essentially the opposite to Addison’s disease (hypoadrenocorticism). The adrenal glands are situated near the kidneys. The effects of this hormone excess affect many different organs in the body causing a wide variety of clinical signs.
